FSC launches green stamp of approval

14 Nov 2008

Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) has launched an industry environmentally-friendly stamp of approval to be applied to all of its products which reach standards set by the vendor in energy efficiency.

The Green IT label allows customers to immediately see which of FSC's products meet sustainability levels from manufacturing to recycling, the vendor claims.

Indeed, chief technology officer of FSC Dr Joseph Reger says: "Instead of resting on our laurels of 20 years of green IT innovations, we’re now setting ourselves an ambitious stretch target for further improvements."

Furthermore, the new system highlights the work of the vendor in reaching sustainable computing goals and the fact that it is a green leader among IT vendors, he continues.

Commencing this month (November 2008), the Green IT benchmarks will rank products on a scale of one star to three, although Mr Reger points out that should a stringent enough industry scheme come into play, FSC would not hesitate to join it.

The vendor previously announced that it had launched environmentally-friendly hard disks as part of its second generation SCALEO Home Server.
