Huawei 'will drive sustainability'

17 Nov 2008

Telecommunications vendor Huawei has joined the Global e-Sustainability Initiative to boost environmental protection strategies and the advancement of green technology.

Huawei is the only Asian member in the group, which has the aim of promoting emission reduction and energy saving within the ICT industry, while highlighting the importance of environmental protection in the communications sector.

Commenting on the fact that the vendor claims to be fully aware of the importance of this issue, Xihui Shu, from the Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Department at Huawei, says: "This is well reflected through our active role in developing environmental protection standards and regulations for the industry, as well as through its development of energy-efficient products and solutions."

Additionally, the vendor's Base Transceiver Station reduces equipment energy consumption by up to 30 per cent, while it takes up 40 per cent less space in equipment rooms.

Huawei
has announced today (November 17th) that it will deliver 40 G nodes to Telefonica de Espana for its transmission network.
