LSI 'adds 8 GFC connections'

18 Nov 2008

LSI's Engenio 7900 high-performance computer (HPC) system has been enhanced to reduce enterprises' carbon footprints and power consumption when deployed, it has been claimed.

High-density disk serial advanced technology attachment (SATA) drive enclosures and eight Gb/s fibre channel (8 GFC) host connectivity have been added to the product to cope with high-bandwidth workloads.

Commenting on the additions, Steve Hochberg, senior director of the HPC segment at LSI, says that when put with "low-cost, high-density SATA drive enclosure and eight Gb/s fibre channel connections, the 7900 HPC storage system provides organisations with dramatic savings on power consumption and floor space, while continuing to provide high performance for data-intensive applications".

Moreover, the product enables enterprises to consolidate, lower the cost of and simplify storage area network infrastructures because the number of host and switch ports required are decreased.

LSI previously announced that its third quarter revenues for 2008 were $714 million (£476 million).
