Virtualisation 'boost for mid-sized market'
21 Nov 2008
Medium-sized enterprises are adopting virtualisation technologies at a quick take up, with 64 per cent of such firms stating that they have adopted or plan to deploy application virtualisation.
A study has found that a reduction in hardware requirement was the main consequence of deploying virtualisation technology, according to 82 per cent of enterprises questioned by King Research for KACE.
Indeed, 86 per cent believe that deploying such products has had a positive impact on them, while nearly half say that there is an increased flexibility within budgets now that virtualisation has changed IT infrastructures.
"The idea that virtualisation is strictly an enterprise commodity simply doesn't hold - medium-sized enterprises are embracing virtualised technologies and adopting them at a rapid pace, realising immediate benefits," says the study's author Diane Hagglund, of King Research.
Moreover, IT Pro reports DC analyst Nathaniel Martinez as saying that green IT has become "a business imperative" and cost-cutting is the main reason why firms turn to energy-efficient technologies such as virtualisation.
